Core Bit Wet
99 Ford Taurus. No heat. Leaking Fluid. Muddy Coolant in Reservoir. WHATS GOING ON?
So, the car hasn’t been blowing consistent heat recently (it will heat up once in awhile especially if I pound on the dash) and starting last night i noticed that it was leaking coolant…fast. It does not smell like coolant in the car and the hoses under the reservoir seem fairly dry accept for some residual leaking fluid from above. So I took a piece of cardboard and put it under the reservoir (where it seems to be coming from) and after running the engine for a bit and removing the cardboard it was wet. SO i put my hand under it and it appears to have a hole or a crack underneath it. Is there a plug which is located underneath? There is a hole big enough for my finger to sit in. I can buy one from for approx $30. I should be able to swap it out myself I’m hoping. So I thought I had figured it out. When checking the reservoir i then noticed the fluid in there was a muddy brown. After researching this online i find out that it could be a blown head gasket or need a core flush. HELP
Remove the Radiator Cap, Residue under the Cap is Reddish-Brown or Black? Check your Transmission Fluid, is it Clear? any Transmission Problems?
Replace the Weak/Bad Radiator Cap, if Reddish-Brown you “More then Likely” have Broken Transmission Cooler Lines in the Radiator “Replace Radiator” & Change the Transmission Fluid & Filter. If with the radiator cap off and the Engine Running you smell Exhaust in the Radiator then it the head Gasket(s). “No matter what the Cause turns out to be Flush/Boil Out the Cooling System before you Replace the Radiator & Thermostat!”
Pounding on the Dash for heat, Heater Core is is Clogging and needs to be “Back Flushed”, Replace “Hot Water Control Valve” on Heater Hose, Blower fan for Heater/A/C (HVAC) may be Shorting and need to be Replaced.
