1988 GMC Vandura suddenly stopped running?
Okay, I spend a lot of time wrenching on all kinds of vehicles but am not a professional mechanic. I can’t quite put my finger on the root of my problem this time and don’t have a lot of time for process of elimination… maybe someone can help point me in the right direction. The spec’s: 1988 Vandura v8 5.0 recently replaced distributor. Suddenly sputtered and stalled on the way home. Follow up attempts at starting gave me shorter and shorter run times (from 100ft – 0ft in 4 or 5 attempts.) I first thought I sucked something into the fuel system but new filter went in with no change … I pulled the air filter assembly and fuel is spraying fine into the TB. Seem to have good spark too. Changed all the wires and plugs just to be sure. Distributor is tight and on the mark … I’m stumped. fuel, air and timing should be a running engine in my book??? Please help!
Make sure the pump is working by spraying some starting fluid in the carburetor. If the pump is good, check the vacuum system (line, delay valve, pump, distributor vacuum advance pin…etc)
