Remodeling With Frameless Glass Doors
If you’re looking for some nice, modern-looking and sleek doors that let in plenty of light, then frameless glass doors are the way to go. Frameless glass doors are usually best used as a shower “curtain”, or as a door that leads outside to the porch if you live in a fairly safe neighborhood.
They are wonderfully elegant and light, and look very contemporary; they also allow significantly more daylight into your home than a normal or even frosted glass door, and daylight has been proven to do wonders for your mood, and is shown to cure depression and increase productivity.
Frameless glass doors can be attached via hinges known as rails, so that the door is allowed to slide instead of opening outwards. The rails are either entirely along the length of the top and bottom, or can be applied using small patch fittings.
There are many frameless glass door manufacturers in both Europe and the United States. Some of the more popular ones include Hafele Glass Doors, Ozone Glass Doors, and Spaceslide.
Hefele is one of the most renowned manufacturers of frameless glass doors and creates a variety of frameless glass doors out of toughened glass anywhere from 8 mm to 19 mm thick.
There are three different types of fittings that you can choose to go with your frameless glass door. The A type is most common, with a rail at the top and bottom of the door to allow it to slide. The B type has a rail fitting at the bottom and patch fitting at the top, and tends to be a little more stable than C type, which has patch fittings at the top and the bottom.
However, patch fittings are a little more elegant and aesthetically more pleasing, so that is the trade off you will have to make if you choose it for your frameless glass doors.
Spaceslide creates standard sized frameless glass doors, unlike the more extravagant double doors that other companies make. These doors are for simpler, modern-looking homes and offices that are seeking a simple sophistication, and they come with the hinges, latch, keep plate, and handles.
You may choose a clear or smoked (which looks somewhat foggy) finish, and the nice thing about Spaceslide is that it will allow you to order custom frameless glass door sizes, in case one of your openings is not a standard size.
Ozone Glass Doors gives a wonderful new twist to the frameless glass door business, in that most of its doors are tinted with colored and textured glass.
Designs are contemporary and simplistically beautiful, and the company is fairly small, which allows you to be more on a personal level with its salespeople and order exactly to your standards.
The basic colors are grey, green, and bronze, though you can request a large variety of unique colors for your doors. You can choose whatever pattern you’d like on the glass, and they are created through the methods of mirror finishing, chromozone color, or sandblasting.
