Fix Thred Uses
How do u get a air tank as air tight as posible?
i just put a 5 gallian air tank for my air horn in my truck. it was at 150 psi at 7am and at 20 psi at 3pm so thare is quite a leak. it takes a long time for my compresser to pump it back up so i waunt to fix it. i used thred tape on all the fittings 6 turnes about the 1/2in prots and 3 times around the 1/4 witch is what the instictians that came with the tank sed to do but is thare a better way to get it more air tight
Well thread sealer will probably do better than the “tape”. Get a spray bottle with a mix of around 40-60 dish detergent to water mix. spary around all the “pressure fittings between the air distributer for the horns. It should bubble pretty good where ever there is air coming out, — don’t ignore the lines between tank, compressor, and horn control valve, (and the tank) also try putting a fitting with a schraeder valve in between the pump and the tank, — you have to put it in the right way so that it will let air in to tank of course,__ this will keep it from “leaking back” if the pump has a small leak in valves!
You can more or less prove if it is the compressor, – if you remove the connection and put a schraeder valve in (or plug the hole – if schraeder valve elsewhere on tank)! Schreader valve is a valve like on tires to inflate them! — If it doesn’t leak pressure down then, – you know that the tank,-and to the horn distribution control valve does not leak! I would guess this size leak will not blow a real large amount of bubbles, because of the length of time it took to get that low, — after all a small nail in a car tire will make it go flat pretty soon from 30-40 psi pressure! And the higher the pressuere, – the faster it leaks down to that 30 psi!! which is proportional to the pressure as it goes down, the rate goes down also! Figured at “cubic” feet (or inches)of air!
