What is the best trim to make with a router for a toy box?
I am making my daughter a oak toy box and have ut finished now and want to make some nice trim for it using a router and want to know if anyone has any ideas on what type of bit to use for it to make a nice trim that can go around the top and bottom of the box! Thanks for your imput!
First of all I would consider adding trim of contrasting or complimenting woods. Also note, oak has tanic acids in it which lend to blotchy stain jobs, consider a sanding sealer. With regard to bits, I have always been a fan of the Roman Ogee. You could also try to make some cove type moldings. There are somethings that will look wrong from the get go. However, there are many more “Right” answers. Play with some combinations and see what works for you. Cut test strips out of pine or poplar. Consider a router table. If you don’t have one – borrow one, They will add to the quality of your work. Have fun with it.
