how do you straighten a chain saw blade?
i have an 18″ poulan blade that wants to cut at an angle after it cuts about 3″ down in a log.
I know the basics of heating and bending metal, but does anyone have any special tips or tricks on how to straighten it?
And please don’t contact me if you aren’t a professional repair person, or 1 of these common sense people that tells me to just buy a new blade, I obviously thought of that.
OK I put right on here, if you don’t know anything about the subject and are not a chainsaw repair professional or atleast own or repair your own saw, then DO NOT respond! It wasn’t 15 minutes after my post and I get someone telling me to buy a new bar, which I specifically said I didn’t want to hear!!! If I was going to buy a new 1, then I wouldn’t have asked how to fix the old 1!!! The idiots on here are unreal and then they get points for doing this?!!!
Only way I’d recommend is taking the chain off and laying it across a hardened metal surface and try hitting it back flat. Put the bow upward and use another piece of metal on the top so you don’t hit your hammer/tool directly on the bar. The bar should bend with moderate force without the application of heat.
Remember to keep your old bar. It will work great on the trees that grew with a bend in the trunk! lol.
