1999 Mercury cougar stalling issues?
I have a 1999 mercury cougar with a 2.5 liter engine. Here lately the car has been acting up. When first starting and putting in reverse it will die some times, will restart and when I continue driving it on the highway it will start surging and barley get up to 60 mph. And sometimes while driving slowly and decide to turn the air on it will stall the car. When all of this is going on, the battery light, seat belt light and engine light comes on and the guages will max out then back to normal. The car has had a recent tune up, fuel pump, fuel filter, crank shaft sensor, cam shaft sensor installed. Can anybody help.
I had the same problem with mine except mine is a 2000. I also put a fuel pump and a sensor in. It turns out there has been a recall on models 1999-2002 Cougar with trouble with stalling. Ford Company will fix it for free within 10 years of original purchase with no miles limit. Just call Ford about a possible recall with Id# 04V421000. Hurry mine ends in October.
