Stands Adjustable Height
Theater Backdrop Support?
I am purchasing a backdrop, 21′ x 45′
All I need to know is HOW do I support it?
I need something that can go to various heights, and width.
*It must be adjustable. I will not be using the full size a lot, as I will be performing in various stages with different sizes.
What do I use to support it? – Cannot be tied from above if thats how its done. Must be a stand on the ground.
*It needs to be cheap & adjustable.
I heard people talk about a pipe. Well, what kind of a pipe is this, where do I get it. And how is it supported?
A backdrop of 21 feet by 45 feet is traditionally hung from a pipe or batten. That is, a pipe of 1 and 1/2 inch diameter pipe suspended by wire rope (or even older style manila rope) through a series of pulleys through the ceiling of a stage. Refer to this page from Wikipedia

To make your drop self supporting will be expensive; it will require some kind of system to stretch it out like a trampoline (hanging a drop allows gravity to stretch, using additional weight at the bottom of the drop like chain or another pipe), and some other support system to just hold it up, like some type of box truss.
I would suggest you find someone who has carpentry skills or metal working skills (to work with aluminum) to help you build a support that will allow your drop to be tacked or snapped down to a frame, and then stood up with some kind of triangle legs in the rear to support the weight. There is something similar for projection screens (Fast-Fold from Da-Lite;http://www.da-lite.com/products/product.php?pID=302 ) that may be able to give you an idea of how to proceed.
